We are saddened to share the passing of beloved soap opera star Bill Hayes. Known for his kindness and dedication, Hayes left an indelible mark on those who knew him and on the entertainment industry.
He passed away on January 12 at the age of 98, from natural causes, at home. Remarkably, he remained active in his career until just weeks before his death.
Reflecting on their final moments together, his wife, Seaforth Hayes, recalled a poignant exchange: “Have I told you how much I love you?” she asked, to which he replied, “No. No. You never did.”
Born William Foster Hayes III on June 5, 1925, in Harvey, Illinois, Hayes was the son of Betty Hayes, a teacher, and William Foster Hayes II, an encyclopedia executive.
Even as a child, his life was filled with music, with his family often singing together as a quartet at home.
After attending DePauw University for a year, Hayes served as a Navy fighter pilot during World War II.
He later graduated with a liberal arts degree in 1947 and pursued a career in entertainment, debuting on television in 1949 and appearing in theater productions. Hayes achieved Hollywood stardom and a 53-year tenure on *Days of Our Lives*.
