Anne Hathaway hates being called by her name and the reason will surprise you…

Anne Hathaway has enjoyed an illustrious career, starring in iconic films like *The Princess Diaries*, *The Devil Wears Prada*, *Les Misérables*, *Alice in Wonderland*, and as Catwoman in *The Dark Knight Rises*.

Her talent has earned her numerous accolades, including an Oscar for her performance in *Les Misérables*. Despite her success, Hathaway dislikes being called “Anne,” her legal name, and prefers “Annie.”

In a conversation on *The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon*, Hathaway explained, “The only person who ever calls me Anne is my mother, and she only does it when she’s really mad at me.”

This association has led her to feel uncomfortable when people call her Anne, often leaving her braced for scolding. Instead, she encourages colleagues and fans to call her “Annie,” a name that feels truer to her personality.

At age 14, when joining the Screen Actors Guild, she chose her birth name, unaware that it would follow her throughout her career. Though she admits the name doesn’t feel like a fit, she’s kept it for simplicity, even on social media.

Hathaway will star alongside Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling in *Barbie*, set to release on July 21, 2023.
