Our thoughts and prayers are with Reba McEntire and her loved ones during this difficult time…

This year marks the 33rd anniversary of the tragic plane crash that profoundly impacted Reba McEntire and her musical family.

On March 16, 1991, a devastating crash claimed the lives of eight members of McEntire’s band and crew, who were not only talented musicians but also close friends of the singer.

Reba expressed her gratitude for those who made a lasting impact on the music industry in an emotional post on social media.

The accident occurred when the plane’s wing struck a boulder on Otay Mountain during a flight from San Diego to Indiana.

At the time, Reba was feeling unwell and stayed behind at the hotel with her husband, Narvel, and her stylist, while the rest of the group continued the journey.

Among those lost were tour manager Jim Hammon, musicians Chris Austin, Joey Cigainero, and Terry Jackson, as well as crew members Paula Kaye Evans and Terry Jackson.

In a heartfelt Instagram tribute, McEntire wrote, “Their passion for music and incredible stage presence continue to inspire us all.” The post also included a video of the band performing, honoring their talent and unity.

Reba often reflects on her bandmates, ensuring their legacy endures through her memories and stories.

In a 2012 interview with Oprah Winfrey, Reba recalled the chilling moment she learned of the crash. She shared, “Narvel went to meet our pilot, who revealed the devastating news. Late that night, Narvel returned to our room and said, ‘One of the planes had crashed.’ I asked, ‘Are they okay?’ and he softly replied, ‘I don’t think so.’”

As we remember these remarkable individuals, we honor the lasting influence they had on McEntire’s career and the music industry. Their legacy lives on through their music and the memories of those who knew them.
