Homeless man discovered a newborn in a trash can and decided to…

A remarkable story unfolded in China eight years ago when Xiong, a homeless man, was searching through garbage for plastic bottles.

During his usual routine, he stumbled upon something unexpected—a small bundle emitting the cries of a baby. Looking closer, he found a newborn, abandoned and wrapped in a blanket.

In today’s world, heartbreaking stories of infants left by their mothers are not uncommon. Many don’t survive. But this little girl, whom Xiong later named Yanyan, was fortunate. This kind-hearted man, though homeless himself, took her in as his own.

Xiong knew the overcrowded orphanages in China often lacked sufficient staff and resources. Believing he could offer more care and attention, he decided to raise Yanyan himself, embracing her as his daughter.

Over the years, he taught her to read, and she already knows some poems by heart.

Despite living under a bridge and relying on streetlights to study, Xiong is dedicated to her education, although the lack of a residence permit prevents her from attending school. With the help of friends, he continues to teach her to write and read.

Each year, Xiong saves from his bottle-collecting to commemorate Yanyan’s birthday with a photograph, creating a treasured collection.

Though their circumstances are challenging, Yanyan has grown up healthy and close to her father. Xiong often sacrifices his own needs to ensure she is fed, saying he would never let her go hungry.

For Yanyan, home is where her father is. Despite their struggles, Xiong’s commitment to her well-being and education is unwavering. It is incredible that he has dedicated his life to this child, offering her love and care.

Perhaps, one day, they will receive support to improve their living conditions. For now, she has the boundless love of a devoted father.
