Man and his teenage stepson rush into a blazing house to save a neighbor and her dogs…

A Pennsylvania man and his teenage stepson have been recognized as neighbors of the year after they rushed to save a woman from a burning house and then returned for her dogs.

On Wednesday morning, Ceytan Oliver from Ephrata awoke to alarm sounds and discovered a fire in a neighbor’s home. Without hesitation, he and his 17-year-old stepson, Joshua Jones, ran into the burning building to help.

“We went straight to her to get her out; we basically pulled her out of there,” Ceytan told WGAL, recalling how they had to push the screaming woman out as she had already suffered burns.

Not only did they rescue the neighbor, but they also saved her two pet dogs. Ceytan threw the dogs to his stepdaughter, who helped them escape while they assisted the woman. However, one of the dogs ran back inside and had to be rescued by firefighters, and two others are still missing.

Ceytan and Joshua have been hailed as heroes for their brave actions, even at the risk of their own safety, with Joshua reportedly suffering second-degree burns on his arms and face.

“It’s scary, but he’s brave. He’s a brave kid,” Ceytan said of his stepson. “He always cares for others.” Joshua added, “I didn’t really think; I just ran in.”

Ceytan emphasized that their actions were simply about being good neighbors: “We care about our neighbors; we care about this neighborhood.”

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
