A married couple from Taiwan, Chang Wanji and Shu Shu-ye, both over 80, have revitalized their lives after 70 years of monotonous work at their laundry by adopting a unique approach. They’ve become a sensation on Instagram, showcasing outfits left behind by customers.
The elderly duo has captured the attention of social media users worldwide, who admire their stylish combinations of long-forgotten garments.
Their grandson, Reef Chan, inspired this fashionable endeavor, encouraging his grandparents to mix and match the accumulated clothing, photograph the results, and share them online. Reef aimed to uplift his grandparents, who often dozed off while waiting for customers, as each day felt like a repeat of the last.
He never anticipated the overwhelming positive response they would receive: “There’s often no one in the laundry, and they tend to fall asleep at the counter, feeling down.
I thought I could remind people to pick up their clothes while showing my grandparents that life can be vibrant, even in old age,” he explained in an interview.
Initially, the couple was hesitant, as wearing others’ clothes is frowned upon in their profession. However, Reef successfully convinced them that “age is not a barrier to good style.”
Despite donating numerous clothes to charity, they still have a vast collection remaining. On social media, the pair receives an abundance of positive feedback, which Reef happily shares with them.
