Fred Parris composed the song “In the Still of the Night,” which his group, The Five Satins, recorded.
Though it initially achieved moderate success upon its release, the song gradually gained widespread recognition and is now considered one of the all-time great doo-wop tracks.
It has been covered by numerous artists, including Debbie Gibson and Boyz II Men, and featured in several films.
Parris wrote this classic in 1955, in the basement of a local church.
A live performance of the song can be seen in the movie *Sweet Beat*. Its popularity surged after being included on the 1987 *Dirty Dancing* soundtrack.
Eventually, Rolling Stone ranked the song at number 90 on their 2010 list of the Top 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
