Today, we share the story of an Ohio couple who recently celebrated 79 years of marriage and are both turning 100 years old!
Hubert and June Malikote were born in July 1922—June on July 13 and Hubert on July 23. Although they grew up in rural Kentucky, they didn’t meet until they both moved to Ohio in search of work.
The two met at church and became friends, but when their friendship blossomed into love, they decided to marry on June 8, 1943. Shortly after, they were separated for two years during World War II while Hubert served in the Navy in Hawaii. When Hubert returned, they settled in Hamilton, Ohio, and had three children.
Their family has since grown to include seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren! This year, Hubert and June are celebrating their 100th birthdays with a backyard party and a church service. Their unwavering faith and love have been the foundation of their 79-year marriage.
“We’ve never had a fight,” Hubert shared.
“We faced challenges, but we never did anything to hurt each other.”
After all these years, June and Hubert still prioritize spending time together. They have dinner and watch movies every night and always share a kiss before going to sleep.
