We don’t get to choose our own names. While there’s always the option to legally change it if we don’t like it, most of us simply learn to live with the name we’re given and get used to it.
The name we choose can have a significant impact on our identity.
In recent years, there’s been a trend among parents to pick unique names for their children. A perfect example is TikToker Indie Clinton, who named her daughter Bambi after the Disney deer. This Australian mother of two shares unconventional videos showcasing her family and her stylish looks.
Interestingly, Clinton mentioned that Love Island contestant Molly-Mae Hague also named her baby Bambi, purely by coincidence.
Clinton explained that she’s always loved the Disney story, reading it to her son since he was born, and now continuing the tradition with her daughter, Bambi.
Originally, Clinton considered naming her daughter Paloma, but when her daughter was born, her “sweet, inquisitive personality” and “big brown eyes” made it clear that Bambi was the perfect name.
“Four months ago, when I was giving birth, I was convinced Bambi was the most unique, unusual name that nobody would use,” Clinton shared.
“But good for Molly-Mae. It seems great minds think alike. We were all set on naming her Paloma at first. That was her name, and nothing was going to change that. But one night, while reading the book to Navy, it suddenly hit me.”
The idea for the name, which she now believes suits her 4-month-old daughter perfectly, struck like lightning.
“I sat up and shouted, ‘What about Bambi?’ and from that moment, it just stuck.”
Despite facing criticism for their choice of name, both Molly-Mae and Indie Clinton remain unfazed.
Clinton, in particular, isn’t worried about what others think as long as she loves the name.
“Unique names are the new trend,” the 25-year-old mom said. “Bambi will fit right in with the Rivers, Bears, Forests, Stormis, and Wolfs. I’d be more concerned about giving my kid a name from the 1900s. People will criticize anything these days, so you might as well give them something to talk about.”
What do you think? Is Bambi a suitable name for a child?
