In the midst of their college years back in 1934, fate seated 21-year-old John Henderson right behind Charlotte Curtis, igniting a love story that has spanned an incredible 85 years.

John, a native of Fort Worth born in 1913, has borne witness to the sweeping technological advancements of the past century, from the advent of radio to the digital era of the internet and television.

Their extraordinary saga commenced at the University of Texas in Austin, where John pursued his studies in the early 1930s, while Charlotte, born in Iowa in 1914, found herself transplanted to Texas with her family.

After a few years of courtship, John finally took the leap and proposed to Charlotte. In December 1939, they sealed their commitment in matrimony, embarking on a honeymoon adventure in San Antonio.

Though their companionship has thrived for 85 years, their marriage, clocking in at 80 years, falls short of the record.

Nonetheless, the Hendersons have made the most of their time together, relishing the opportunities for exploration, particularly through their voyages aboard cruise ships, which have taken them to diverse corners of the globe, from South America to Scandinavia and even China.

Asked about the secret to their lasting union, the Hendersons, who never had children, humorously jest that their decision might have inadvertently contributed to their enduring bond.
