Immediately after birth, little Finnley Patonai needed clothing typically worn by babies aged 6 to 9 months. Carey and Tim Patonai discovered that the fetus was unusually large in size long before giving birth.
But even the doctors couldn’t hide their surprise when, two weeks before the expected due date, an Arizona couple had a baby twice the size of normal newborns.
Finnley weighed 6.4 kilograms and measured around 60 centimeters. “Our son became the star of the maternity hospital. Everyone wanted to take a picture with him,” said the 36-year-old mother of the child in an interview with Today.com.
According to the obstetrician-gynecologist who performed the cesarean section, in 27 years of practice she had never seen a newborn of this size.
When the child was born, the operating room immediately became bustling.
The child’s parents also couldn’t hide their surprise and great joy because on the journey to motherhood, Carey experienced 19 miscarriages, including two between the birth of her second child and Finnley. In two cases, they were twins.
The losses were difficult for the family. Each miscarriage deeply affected Carey’s eldest son’s heart, as he truly wished for a younger brother or sister.
According to doctors, if Finnley had been born on time, he would have weighed around 7.5 kilograms.
By the way, Carey and Tim’s previous children were also born quite large, 3.7 and 5 kilograms, but still, this pregnancy turned out to be completely different from all previous ones.
According to the mother of many children, at the end of the term, “she had grown so much that she could barely walk” and “didn’t dare to leave the shower for half an hour”.
Fortunately, despite his large size, Finnley is in good health. He sleeps peacefully and eats with appetite. “Our dream of a family with three children has finally come true,” says Carey. “Our long-awaited son is perfection itself.”
