No matter how accomplished someone appears on the outside, we all have internal issues. Anthony Hopkins suffered with drinking in the early years of his career.
Anthony’s addiction began “innocently,” when he developed a worldly demeanor and began drinking since “that’s what you do in theater, you drink.”
However, as is all too common, social activities quickly took over his life. Anthony’s drinking had gotten out of hand by 1975.
“I was hellbent on destruction,” the Academy Award winner recalled. “It was like I was seized by a devil, an addiction that I couldn’t break.” And there are millions of people like that all throughout the world.
But God’s might is most visible in our darkest hours!
“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and rescues those who are crushed in spirit.” ~ Psalm 34:18
Testimony of Sir Anthony Hopkins to God’s Salvation: Sir Anthony Hopkins was aware of the need for aid. As a result, he sought help from Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). Anthony Hopkins used to be an atheist. However, at an AA meeting, a lady asked him a simple question.
“Why don’t you simply put your faith in God?”
Anthony had never done anything like it before. “Well, why not?” he reasoned, desperate as he was. “The minute the distraught actor decided to faith and trust in God, everything changed.”
“I couldn’t quit [drinking], so I simply begged for a little assistance and, boom.” “It was like, bingo,” Anthony Hopkins recalls.
Anthony believes that the desire to drink was suddenly lifted from him, “never to return again,” and that he has believed in God ever since, working day in and day out to strengthen his faith.
When asked if he believed in God during a CNN interview with Piers Morgan, Anthony Hopkins responded strongly, “Yes, I do.”
Anthony Hopkins Opens Up About His Faith to Today’s Youth
Years after embracing Christianity, Anthony Hopkins is regarded as one of the greatest actors of our time. In truth, Queen Elizabeth knighted him in 1993 for his contributions to the performing arts, bestowing the title Sir Anthony Hopkins on him.
Anthony was asked to speak to a gathering of over 500 high school and college students at the annual Leadership, Excellence, and Accelerating Your Potential conference since he is such a well-known actor (LEAP). And he warned them about the pitfalls of adhering to society.
“It’s not going to work if you pursue money.” and “Chasing success isn’t going to work,” he continued.
In fact, in a different interview, Anthony discussed how unsatisfying success alone is.
“You know, I meet young folks who want to perform and be famous,” the renowned actor stated. “And I tell them there’s nothing up there until you get to the top of the tree.” The majority of it is rubbish, and the majority of it is false. Accept life for what it is. Just be glad to be alive. ”
Anthony Hopkins, a former atheist, can no longer live that way. He emphasized the power of our words and ideas on our lives after describing how he was rescued from the depths of alcoholism. He also mentioned how God can utilize everything, even our worst mistakes, for good.
“I believe we are capable of achieving so much,” Anthony told the students. From my personal experience, I still can’t believe that my life is what it is since I should have perished in Wales, drunk or something.”… We may either persuade ourselves into death or experience the finest existence we’ve ever experienced. Nothing was a mistake. It was all predestined. ”
While Anthony Hopkins has portrayed characters that are absolutely nasty at times, the actor spends his own life with Christ at the center of his heart. He used to be an atheist before discovering God, and now he simply feels terrible for them, equating life without God to “being in a tight jail with no windows.”
I’d hate to have to live like that, wouldn’t you?
Then Sir Anthony Hopkins inquired.
What a beautiful reminder of the hope we have in Jesus, Anthony Hopkins’ testimony was!
