After performing their first dance for the groom’s grandparents, a married pair moved wedding guests to tears.
A wedding ceremony is full of customs and symbols, and the first dance of a newly married couple is one of the most treasured. It is regarded as the official start of dancing by the newlywed couple and is also the most anticipated occasion for the guests.
However, this loving couple chose to give another couple who had never had their own first dance at their wedding the opportunity to share it that day, and it was captured on camera for many to view on social media.
Samantha Estepa, a 26-year-old criminal defense attorney from Hicksville, New York, and her new husband Zachary Graff, 27, married on April 2, 2022, but during the evening reception, the couple opted to honor Zachary’s grandparents, Elaine and Morton.
Morton had to stay shiva after his mother passed away shortly before their wedding, thus the old couple had to skip their first dance.
Shiva is a Jewish custom of mourning for seven days after the death of a family member, thus even if there is a family celebration at that time, there can be no dancing for the grieving.
Samantha and Zachary’s act of compassion was welcomed by wedding guests in attendance, including bridesmaids who were spotted wiping away tears as the golden pair danced to the music.
This married couple was really thoughtful in allowing another couple to take the spotlight at their wedding; it shows how compassionate and kind they are at heart, and we wish them all the best in their new life together.
