Consider how unlikely it would be to have twins who both have Down syndrome from birth.

Savannah Combs, a 23-year-old mother, shares a touching story that demonstrates how special and unique her twins are.

Embracing the Rarity

Savannah was overjoyed when she found out she was carrying twins. She soon realized, however, that her twins were born with Down syndrome. Savannah was first saddened by the news, but she also regarded their situation as unique and valuable.

Kennadi Rue and Mckenli Ackerman, her twins, are affectionately referred to as her “little gems.” She knows that what they have is exceptional and uncommon.

Savannah bravely decided to document her postpartum journey with her twins on TikTok by sharing their adventures and accomplishments. Through her videos, she hopes to expose myths and combat stereotypes about Down syndrome.

She went on to add that she had been encouraged to terminate her twins. Savannah, on the other hand, persisted, seeing each prenatal visit as a gift.

Overcoming Obstacles

Kennadi Rue and Mckenli were born prematurely, so before they could go home, they had to stay in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) for several weeks. According to Savannah, they were “mono di twins,” which means that although each of them had a separate sac, their placentas were identical.

Their odds of one in every two million make them even more remarkable, given that they have Down syndrome on top of their uniqueness. Savannah, however, views her daughters as just any other child—as beings with feelings, hearts, and minds of their own—despite this. Even though it might take a little longer, she is adamant that they will reach their milestones.
